Fighter Squadron SDOE Squad Tournament
With the
release of Plane Pack 6.1, Harman's Ground Pack and the 1.5.2.9.
Patch right around the corner what better time to celebrate
the achievements and possibilities in this sim than now? And
what better way then a Tournament!
SDOE WAR,
the more recent Squad War, and various organized skirmishes
in the past have allowed squads and even lone pilots to strut
their stuff in the virtual skies of SDOE. Flying WWII planes
has always been the focus in all the previous events, with
only occasional attempts at trying to incorporate some of
the experimental moving ground units. WWI has
never been given a serious look by the SDOE community at large,
but instead those fliers have been a splinter group off on
there own. In fact, many seasoned SDOE veterans of WWII at
this time may never have even flown a WWI kite, at least not
online. Those who have know the experience the others are
missing.
This Tournament
(I hope) will change all of that! :)
Harmans
Ground Pack has effectively torn the "experimental"
tag off of the moving ground units. Willys Jeep, the Halftrack,
along with other vehicles have brought a whole NEW dimension
to our little world. Then we add to that the WWI Test Pack
2 with all the great planes it has, and throw in the aforementioned
PP6.1 and the 1.5.2.9 Patch, and it seems the time for this
event has come!
So
what do we hope to offer with the 'Tournament'? How will it
work?
The Tournament
is designed for Squads matches, but dont stop reading
yet if your not in a squad! You will not be left out.
Each active
squad in SDOE can register if they wanted to participate in
the tournament (and why wouldn't they). The registration includes
the names of the members of their squad along with the squad
name, and squad C.O. ( or in the case of those Squads without
a C.O. Nealg's email address).
Those
flyers who currently do not belong to a squad will sign-up
to be put into a 'Tournament created' Squad, i.e. Red Squad,
Blue Squad, Yellow Squad, etc. The number of Tournament created
squads would be determined by the number of applicants. This
would allow All pilots who wanted to participate to do so,
and let those participants see first hand what makes squad
play so fun. Who knows, maybe the squads formed for the Tournament
would continue past its play.
A set
of 25 missions will be provided for squads to fly in competition.
Those 25 missions would be grouped into 4 classes.
WWII ETO
WWII PTO
WWII Aerial and Ground
WWI
The majority of the missions will be WWII Aerial, however
a good sampling of the others will be reflected in the Tournament.
Missions
will either be won, lost, our judged to be a draw. Unless
your squad has Won the mission, no points would be awarded.
Several
missions will be made for each of the classes mentioned. Some
of these will be made to give an advantage to one side over
the other, i.e. 3 109k's vs 4 P51D's. If the winner of this
type of match was the squad at the disadvantage (the 109k
squad) then more points would be awarded to them. If the winner
was the squad who had the advantage (the P51D squad) then
fewer points would be awarded. For example the wining squad
from an even match would recieve 10 points. If they won a
match where they were the underdog, they would recieve 15
points. If they were to win a mission where they had the advantage
they would recieve 5 points.
The reason
for doing this is twofold.
1) It
will allow a seasoned group of players the opportunity to
gain more points by achieving a victory in this type of uneven
event.
2) It will allow rookie pilots who often are to intimidated
to join this type of event a chance to succeed.
The only
requirement is that each squad must fly every mission at least
once (however they can fly them more than once), and that
they must have flown against each squad in the tournament
at least once from each category of missions.
The Tournament
will end when all requirements have been met, or at the end
of a predetermined deadline (to be finalized later). The winning
squad will be the one with the highest point total as a percentage
of missions they have flown.
The downloads
necessary to compete in all the missions for the Tournament
will be ...
PlanePack6.1
Patch
1.5.2.9
Harmans
Ground Pack
WWI
TestPack2
Notice
I said the downloads necessary to compete in all the missions.
If you are unable, or unwilling to fly in the WWI matches
for instance, that's fine. As long as someone from your squad
can, it's not necessary for you to have that download.
Our website SDOE Tournament has been put up. It allows the
winning Squads of matches to post results, as well as a provide
a place for each squad to challenge one another on the forum.
It will also provide a place to see up todate results of the
Tournament matches, as well as the current standings in the
Tournament.
Missions
in the Tournament will vary in size so that even 2 vs 2 matches
will be possible. This means that matches will not have to
be flown on any specific day, but can be flown at any time
that is convienant for the participating squad members. The
decision of "when" is totally up to the competing
sides.
Specific
rules for the Tournament are located Tournament Rules.
Just
why are we doing this?
Several
reasons.
A) SDOE
shines online, and any attempt to gain more interest and get
more flyers online is a good thing.
B) The recent achievements with the various packs and patches
cries out for this so that everyone get on the same page.
C) Flyers who have never ventured out of their little niche
in SDOE would have a reason to try the other things it offers.
D) Because its fun!
I know
the proposal has raised some questions, and caused all of
us to look hard at SDOE online standard and patch issues as
well. With all of your input and a little persistence, I'm
sure this will be a great online experience for all.
